Elaine Lazer, aka Elaine Lazorwitz, was born and raised in New Jersey. After graduating from the School of Visual Arts with the Nikon Award she began assisting other photographers. To continue the agonizing prospect of making no money for an unknown amount of years, Elaine decided to change direction. She got a job as a truck driver for a small minority mechanical engineering company. One day while waiting in the construction trailer, the foreman came in, sat down and read the paper, The Daily News, so he really wasn't reading, and did so for the rest of the day. Elaine thought I could do that and it pays way more. She decided to go for her Masters at what is now New York Universities Tandon School of Engineering. After leaving NYU the first time she was included in Who's Who of Women in Business, Who's Who of Women in America and Who's Who.
In 1996, Elaine completed her Photography M.A. at NYU/International Center of Photography combined program.

After forty years in construction, Elaine decided to again begin what she started back in 1980. Elaine now travels around Texas photographing those forgotten but reminiscent places when times were simpler.
Elaine has chosen to take the professional name of her father. He was a professional prize fighter and fought under Roy Lazer.
